Box Score LACEY, Wash. --- The Western Oregon women's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season, falling 61-56 to Chico State at Marcus Pavilion on Friday night in the first game of the SMU Tournament.
The Wolves (3-1) made a strong presence in the first quarter, holding Chico State (2-1) to just eight points. However, the Wildcats would put together a strong third quarter, outscoring the Wolves 23-14.
The Wolves were down by 10 points with six minutes left in the fourth quarter. WOU strung together a few strong defensive possessions to cut into the lead. Ana McClave brought the Wolves within three points with a pair of free throws seven seconds remaining, but Chico State was able to hold off WOU.
Cali McClave had a team-high 15 points (shooting 7-for-18 from the field), adding three rebounds and two assists. Triniti Youngblood added 12 points (shooting 5-for-14 from the field) while leading the team with seven assists and adding seven rebounds. Ana McClave grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds while scoring six points. The Wolves' bench played a major role, contributing 15 points.
The Wolves will play Sonoma State 1 p.m. Saturday in the second game of the Saint Martin's Tournament.
