Wolves come through with four-set win at Alaska

FAIRBANKS, Alaska --- The Western Oregon volleyball team broke its skid and picked up a 3-1 (24-26, 25-16, 25-21, 25-21) victory at Alaska at the Patty Center.

After narrowly dropping the first set, the Wolves (9-13 overall, 3-11 GNAC) bounced back to dominate the second set thanks to jumping out to a 15-6 lead and even up the match.

In the third set, WOU sprinted to a 6-0 start - capped by a Madison Hornback kill - but eventually fell behind 13-11. With the game tied at 17, WOU got back-to-back kills from Hornback and Sarah Strus before a Bailee Hartsook and Chloe Asciutto block made it 20-17. A Hartsook kill and Bella MacLellan and Emily Olson block finished out the game 25-21.

WOU closed it out thanks to using a 7-2 run to turn a 10-9 score into 17-11 and held on from there for the 25-21 victory to win the match.

Hornback led the Wolves with 22 kills and 14 digs. Strus and Hartsook had 10 kills each while Bella MacLellan had a team-best six blocks. Samantha Darby had a team-best 25 assists, followed closely by Laney O'Neill's 23.

WOU plays its final two home games next week, hosting Western Washington 7 p.m. Thursday and Simon Fraser 7 p.m. Saturday.
