FRESNO, Calif. --- The Western Oregon baseball team allowed three runs in the bottom of the eighth to surrender its lead and fell to Fresno Pacific 5-3 in the four-game series finale Saturday at FPU Diamond.
The Wolves (1-3) took a 3-0 lead in the third inning behind a two-run homer from
Derek Maiben and an RBI double from
John Stark.
However, FPU (3-1) scored a pair of unearned runs in the sixth inning before scoring three runs in the eighth inning via only one hit (Wolves pitching hit two batters and walked another in the inning) to take the lead for good.
Maiben finished 2-for-5 with the home run and two RBI.
Owen Bischoff went 2-for-5 with a run as well for WOU.
The Wolves got a strong start on the mound from
Dylan Chalmers as he went 5.2 innings and gave up two runs (none earned) on four hits with three strikeouts and three walks.
Chris Jones picked up the loss, going 0.1 innings and giving up three runs on no hits with two hit batters and a walk.
WOU is off until playing its home opener Feb. 18 against Eastern Oregon.
