After slow start, Western Oregon women rally to pick up win at Seattle Pacific

SEATTLE --- The Western Oregon women's basketball team overcame an early 12-point deficit to defeat Seattle Pacific 57-52 on the road.

The Wolves (10-10 overall, 4-8 GNAC) trailed 21-9 to the Falcons (12-9, 7-6) early in the second quarter before going on an 8-2 run capped by a Cali McClave layup to cut the lead in half at 23-17 halfway through the second quarter.

The Wolves then got back-to-back 3-pointers by Kylee Arzner (two of her five 3-pointers on the night) within 31 seconds of each other to cut the lead to 25-23 with 3:32 left in the quarter as WOU went into the half down 30-26.

The Wolves finally tied the game with 2:45 left in the third quarter on a Princy Paaluhi-Caulk bucket to make it 38-38 before on WOU's next possession Paaluhi-Caulk scored again to take its first lead at 40-38 since leading 9-7.(SPU went on a 14-0 run from that point). Arzner drained a 3-pointer at the third-quarter buzzer to make it 43-40 WOU heading into the fourth.

The game was tied at 50-50 with 1:22 remaining in the contest before Arzner drained her fifth and final 3-pointer of the game with 54 seconds remaining to give WOU a three-point lead. After a SPU bucket, Kiylynn Dawkins scored with 28 seconds left to again make it a three-point game at 55-52. The Falcons missed a 3-pointer on its next possession and Paaluhi-Caulk drained a pair of free throws with 12 seconds left to make it 57-52 and seal the game.

Paaluhi-Caulk led WOU with 16 points, Cali McClave had 14 points, eight rebounds and three assists and Arzner finished with 15 points (going 5-for-8 from 3-point range) as the trio scored all but 12 points for the Wolves.

WOU returns to action Thursday as it hosts Western Washington.
