ELLENSBURG, Wash. --- The Western Oregon baseball team jumped out to an early lead in game one and cruised to a win 11-6 before being victim to a late go-ahead homer to fall 5-4 in game two to Central Washington on Monday to take three of four from the Wildcats.
In the first game, the Wolves (9-7 overall, 5-3 GNAC) jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two innings and cruised to the 11-6 win thanks to a season-high 13 hits (all singles) as all but one starting player got a hit. The six runs allowed is actually a season high for WOU as well.
Jacob Maiben paced WOU at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two runs while
Levi Cummings was 2-for-5 with three runs, an RBI and a stolen base,
Owen Bischoff was 2-for-5 with a run and RBI and
Collin Irwin ent 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.Â
Dylan Chalmers got the win, going five innings and giving up four runs on five hits with two strikeouts and a walk.
In the second game, WOU broke a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning of the seven-inning game with an
AJ Cortese two-run homer (he also had an RBI double earlier in the game) to make it 4-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth. However, the Wildcats (7-16, 3-5)Â hit a three-run inning in the fifth to take the lead for good at 5-4.
WOU had just four hits in the game with Cortese going 2-for-3 with a homer, double and three RBI.
Chris Hardin picked up the loss, going five innings and giving up five runs on nine hits with three strikeouts.
WOU returns home for a non-conference contest 2 p.m. Wednesday against Bushnell.Â
