WOU baseball picks up mid-week, non-conference win over Bushnell, 4-1

MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon baseball team got five shutout innings from Yuzo Ishioka, three hits from Levi Cummings and a pair of RBI from Derek Maiben as the Wolves defeated Bushnell 4-1 Wednesday at WOU Baseball Field.

The Wolves (10-7) took a quick 1-0 lead on the Beacons (11-7)  in the first after Jacob Maiben singles, stole second, made it to third on an error and twin brother Derek Maiben drove him home with a groundout.

WOU scored three more in the fifth on a Derek Maiben sacrifice fly and two more runs on a Bushnell error to give the Wolves a 4-0 advantage.

It was more than enough for the WOU pitching staff as Ishioka went five shutout innings and gave up just one hit with four strikeouts and no walks - totaling just 54 pitches in the outing. Kadyn Shelton (1 IP, 1 ER) and Judah Graham (2 IP, 0 ER) picked up the next three innings before Devin Bell collected the save with a perfect ninth inning as the Wolves as a staff threw just 106 pitches in the contest.

Cummings finished 3-for-5 with a double and a run for the Wolves, Jacob Maiben went 2-for-4 with two runs and John Oleson also went 2-for-4.

WOU returns to action Tuesday at George Fox.
