BILLINGS, Mont. ---- The Western Oregon softball team run-ruled Montana State Billings in the first game 9-0 before dropping the second game 9-1 Saturday at Avitus Group Stadium.
In the first game,
Maddie Mayer tossed a two-hit shutout in the six-inning game - striking out four and walking one.
The Wolves (22-22, 11-7) got all the runs they would need in the third inning as
Logan Carlos drove in a run before a two-run single by
Kate Ronning made it 3-0. WOU scored a run in the fourth (
Maddie Doig RBI) and fifth (
Isabelle Lewis RBI single) before scoring four in the sixth to make it 9-0 - three of the runs scoring on Yellowjacket errors.
Carlos finished 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, Lewis went 2-for-4 with two RBI and
Baylie Kahele went 2-for-3 with a run.
In game two,
Sophie Franklin hit a solo homer in the second to cut the MSUBÂ lead to 2-1 before the Yellowjackets scored seven unanswered runs to force the fun rule.
Erica Soliz picked up the loss, going three innings and giving up four runs on five hits with one strikeout and a walk.
WOU is off until traveling to Lacey, Washington, on April 25 to start a four-game series against Saint Martin's.
