MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon baseball team wrapped up a four-game sweep of Central Washington with 14-1 and 5-2 wins Sunday at WOU Baseball Field and regained first place in the GNAC.
The Wolves, who outscored the Wildcats 38-8 in the series, now sit at 14-8 in GNAC play, one game ahead of Northwest Nazarene (14-10). Saint Martin's at 9-11 is in third, Central Washington dropped to 10-14 to sit in fourth while MSU Billings is in fifth at 7-11.

In game one Sunday, the Wolves (21-12 overall) and Wildcats (15-26) were tied at one heading into the bottom of the third before a
Jacob Maiben RBI single in the third gave WOU the lead for what turned out to be for good.

The Wolves scored two more in the fourth (RBI double by
Levi Cummings, RBI groundout by
Justyn Herzog) before exploding for seven runs in the fifth – highlighted by a two-run singles by
Cedric Gatter and
Derek Maiben – to take an 11-1 lead before scoring three more in the eighth to make the final 14-1.

It was more than enough for WOU starter
Arturo Alvarez as the senior went six innings and gave up no earned runs on three hits with five strikeouts and two walks.
Chris Jones (two innings) and
Judah Graham (one inning) each had scoreless appearances as well for the Wolves in relief.

The Wolves had eight of their nine starters finish with a hit and six of them had multiple hits as WOU had a season high in runs (14) and hits (17).
Derek Maiben had WOU's first four-hit game of the year, going 4-for-5 with two RBI and a run.
Jacob Maiben went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs, Cummings finished 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and two runs,
AJ Cortese finished 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and two runs, Gatter went 2-for-5 with two RBI and
Collin Irwin went 2-for-4 with a double, three runs and an RBI.

In game two, the Wolves jumped out to a 4-0 lead after scoring a run in the first on a
Jacob Maiben RBI single and three in the third with a
Curran Mitzel two-run double and
Derek Maiben scoring on a wild pitch. Central Washington cut the lead in half with two runs in the fourth, but WOU was able to hang on for the 5-2 win - getting a sixth-inning solo homer from Cortese.

Sebasten Boivin got the win in relief, going 2.1 innings and giving up no runs and just one hit.
Devin Bell tossed a perfect seventh to pick up his fifth save of the season.
Bryce Bond got the start, but finished an out short of qualifying for a win in a seven-inning game – going 3.2 innings and giving up two runs on three hits with five strikeouts and three walks.

Four players finished with two hits apiece as Cortese went 2-for-2 with a home run,
Jacob Maiben went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI and
Derek Maiben went 2-for-3 with a run.
The Wolves don't play again until their final home stand of the season - a five-game series against MSU Billings that starts April 27 (Thursday) at 2 p.m. with a single, 9-inning game before playing doubleheaders the next two days.
