MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader, 10-0 and 5-1, against first-place Northwest Nazarene on Friday at WOU Softball Field.
In the second game, the Wolves (22-26 overall, 11-11 GNAC) fell behind 5-0 by the fourth inning before
Bella Valdes scored
Carley Schlag on a sacrifice fly, but that's as close as WOU would get to the Nighthawks (31-15, 19-3).
WOU finished with four hits in the game from four different players.
Chelsea Smith got the loss, going all seven innings and giving up five runs (four earned) on four hits with four strikeouts, eight walks and four hit batters.
In game one, the game was scoreless until NNU scored four in the fourth and six in the fifth to force the run rule after five.
Maddie Mayer got the loss, going four innings ;and giving up six runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and three walks.
Katelyn McGough had the Wolves' lone hit.
The Wolves still sit in the fourth and final spot for the conference tournament. Two wins Saturday would clinch WOU a spot into the event. Below are the standings with Western Washington done with its schedule, WOU and NNU with two games left and the rest of the teams with four games left.
WOU and NNU play a doubleheader starting at noon Saturday with Senior Day festivities starting at 11:35 a.m.
