SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. --- The Western Oregon baseball team's season came to an end in the NCAA West Regionals as the sixth-seeded Wolves lost to No. 3 Azusa Pacific 12-8 and No. 2 Cal State San Bernardino 8-7 Thursday at Fiscalini Field.

In the first game, the Wolves (30-15) led 5-3 heading to the bottom of the fourth thanks to a three-run homer by
Hibiki Ouchi in the second inning, a solo homer by
Curran Mitzel in the third and a
Justyn Herzog homer in the fourth.

However, APU would score two in the bottom of the fourth to tie it before pulling away with two runs in the sixth and four runs in the seventh to take a 11-5 lead and held on for the win.

Mitzel finished 2-for-4 with a home run, double, RBI and two runs, Ouchi went 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and a run while
Zach Valdez went 2-for-4 with a run as each WOU starter had a hit in the contest.
Chris Hardin got the loss, going 5.1 innings and giving up six runs (five earned) on seven hits with three strikeouts and four walks.

In the loss to CSUSB, WOU again held a narrow lead early – this one 4-3 heading to the bottom of the third thanks to a Mitzel RBI groundout in the first, a
Collin Irwin RBI double and a
Levi Cummings RBI single in the second and an RBI single from
John Oleson in the third before CSUSB hit a two-run homer in the bottom half of the inning to take a 5-4 lead.

The Wolves tied the game in the fourth on a
Derek Maiben RBI fielder's choice, but a pair of runs in the fifth by San Bernardino gave it the lead for good and eventually led 8-5 going into the ninth. WOU made it interesting in the final frame, scoring a pair of runs on a Mitzel RBI single and a Maiben RBI groundout as WOU had the tying run on second with one out. But the Wolves couldn't get him in and fell by a run.

Six Wolves finished with multi-hit games with
Derek Maiben going 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run,
Levi Cummings going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run,
Jacob Maiben going 2-for-5 with two runs, Mitzel going 2-for-5 with two RBI, Oleson going 2-for-5 with an RBI and
Collin Irwin going 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI.

Dylan Chalmers picked up his first loss of the season (7-1), going six innings and giving up seven runs on nine hits with four strikeouts and walk.
