TURLOCK, Calif. --- The Western Oregon volleyball team moved to 2-0 on the season after defeating Chico State 3-1 (25-15, 20-25, 25-20, 25-19) on Friday during the Stanislaus State Tournament at Fitzpatrick Arena.
It's the first 2-0 start to the season for WOU since the 2013 season when they hosted the WOU Invitational.
The Wolves (2-0) after splitting the first two games with the Wildcats (2-1) never trailed in the third game to take it 25-20 to take a lead in the contest. In the fourth game, the Wolves led 16-14 before a
Bailee Hartsook kill started a quick 4-1 run for the Wolves capped by a
Chloe Asciutto ace to make it 20-15. CSU wouldn't closer than three the rest of the game as kills by
Madison Hornback and
Emily Olson put the match away.
Hornback again led the team in kills (14) and digs (16) to go along with four aces. Hartsook finished with 11 kills and three block assists,
Kilinoelehua Helm had seven kills while Ascuitto had six kills, four aces and four block assists.
Kealani Rosa led the team with 24 assists while
Laney O'Neil had 17 and Olson and
Bella MacLellan each had four block assists and one solo block to lead WOU.
The Wolves end play at the event Saturday with matches against Academy of Art (9 a.m.) and Fresno Pacific (2 p.m.) to go for its first 3-0 start since 2012 and 4-0 start since 1999.
