Wolves men's soccer storms back in second half with two goals to tie Simon Fraser

MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon men's soccer team rallied from a 2-0 halftime deficit with a pair of Alejandro Velasco goals to within a minute of each to pick up the tie against Simon Fraser on Thursday at WOU Turf Field.

The Wolves (3-2-1 overall, 0-0-1 GNAC) got back within a goal in the 64th minute when Abraham Villalobos found Aidan Brouddus down the sideline in the penalty area. Brouddus crossed it in front of the goal and Velasco was there to put it away to make it 2-1 Red Leafs (3-2-2, 0-0-1).

Less than a minute later, Villalobos was in transition in the middle of the field before hitting Velasco with a pass in the penalty area where he put it away for his second goal of the game and team-high fifth of the season.

Both had chances in the final 25, but nobody could find the back of the net and the conference-opening contest ended in a draw.

The Wolves outshot the Red Leafs 15-13 with both teams taking five shots on goal. Velasco took a team-high four shots while Alex Grinon had three for the Wolves. Juan Suarez picked up three saves at keeper for WOU.

The Wolves now hit the road to take on Montana State Billings on Saturday.
