WAIPAHU, Hawaii --- The Western Oregon men's soccer team moved to 2-0 on the season after three Wolves scored in a 3-1 win over Hawaii Pacific on Sunday night at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
WOU men's soccer - in its second year of existence and first year under head coach
Michael Behonick - has already equaled its win total from its inaugural season. Sunday also marked the first true road victory in the program's history (Thursday's win over Hawaii Hilo was a neutral site game - but was the first win for the program outside of Monmouth after going 0-7 on the road and 0-1 at a neutral site in its first season).
On Sunday night, WOU got on the board first in the 25th minute when
Yahir Ocampo scored with an assist from
Gabriel Silva. HPU (0-1-1) quickly tied the contest shortly after before WOU took a 2-1 lead in the 35th minute when Silva scored on an assist from
Moises Cisneros.
The score remained that way until the 52nd minute when WOU got an insurance goal from
Alejandro Velasco (his second on the season) - again assisted by Cisneros.
Juan Suarez picked up 10 saves in goal for the Wolves while facing 19 shots.
WOU hits the road again this week as the Wolves travel to take on Cal State Dominguez Hills 6 p.m. Thursday and Cal State San Marcos 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
