MONMOUTH, Ore. --- A spectacular diving header for a goal from Olivia Fothergill and a strong defensive effort led Western Oregon women's soccer to a 1-0 win over Montana State Billings on Thursday at WOU Turf Field.

WOU (3-3-4 overall, 3-1-1 GNAC) and the Yellowjackets (4-4-1, 1-3-1) played a scoreless first half and it remained that way until the 62nd minute.

The Wolves' Savannah Taylor took the ball down the left side down near the end line before crossing it all the way over to the right side of the goal where the 5-foot-11 Fothergill used a diving header to put the ball into the back of the net and put WOU up 1-0.

The Wolves hung on from there as Sophia Pierce picked up her third shutout of the season behind three saves.

WOU plays another key GNAC matchup 10 a.m. Saturday as the Wolves host a Seattle Pacific team that is just a point ahead of them in the upper half of the GNAC standings.
