MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon football team had its five-game win streak snapped by Texas A&M-Kingsville 21-14 Saturday at McArthur Field.
The Wolves (5-3 overall, 5-1 Lone Star Conference) looked they were on the verge of tying the game at 21 in the fourth against the Javelinas (5-3. 4-2) when
Cody Hall blocked a punt on TAMUK's end of the field to put WOU in business at the Javelina 20.
After an 18-yard pass from
Jordan McCarty to
Dominique Loggins moved the ball to the TAMUK 2, the Wolves were thwarted on four consecutive runs and turned the ball over on downs with 4:28 remaining.
The WOU defense stuffed the TAMUK twice with the Javelinas at the 1-yard line (the second time extremely close to a safety) before a penalty gave TAMUK a first down and it ran out the clock.
The WOU defense held the Javelinas to 34 yards rushing and 310 yards of offense with
Daron Ulrich Jr. coming up with an interception, a forced fumble, a tackle for a loss and six tackles.
Joseph Northcutt led the team with nine tackles while
Malcolm Liufau,
Tyler Copeland and
Aden Murphy each had eight.
Jordan McCarty finished 11-for-21 passing for the Wolves for 169 yards while leading the team with 86 yards rushing and a touchdown on 22 attempts.
Damon Hickok had four catches for 67 yards while
Jaylen Fite had four catches for 64 yards.
WOU hits the road next week as it travels to take on Midwestern State in Wichita Falls, Texas.
