FAIRBANKS, Alaska --- The Western Oregon women's basketball team outscored Corban 41-27 in the second half to overcome a 10-point halftime deficit and beat the Warriors 74-70 Friday evening at the Mt. McKinley Bank North Star Invitational.
The Wolves (2-0) were down by 12 midway through the third quarter when pair of
Bella Pedrojetti 3-pointers with a Milasarai Tau bucket inbetween in a one minute span quickly cut the Corban (1-2) lead to four at 50-46.
Ciona Wells drained a 3-pointer with under a minute left in teh third to cut the lead to two heading into the fourth quarter.
WOU eventually took its first lead since leading 19-18 with two minute left in the first quarter when
Enid Vaifanua scored at the 4:34 mark in the fourth to make it 63-61.
The Wolves trailed 70-69 with less than a minute remaining before three trips to the line in the final 54 seconds netted WOU five points to make the final 74-70.
Vaifanua had 18 points, 11 rebounds and five assists, Pedrojetti had 18 points and five rebounds and
Natalie Brown picked up her second double-double in as many games with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
The Wolves return to action 4 p.m. (PT) Saturday against Western Colorado.
