15th-ranked Wolves men's soccer crunches Red Leafs, 4-1

BURNABY, B.C. --- The 15th-ranked Western Oregon men's soccer team cruised by Simon Fraser 4-1 on Saturday afternoon at SFU Stadium at Terry Fox Field.

The Wolves (12-2-1 overall, 8-1 GNAC) remain atop the the GNAC standings with 26 points - five points ahead of Western Washington with three matches to play. A GNAC conference title is an automatic bid into the NCAA Championships (there's no GNAC Championship tournament in men's soccer) with the top 10 teams out of the four super regions making the event as well.

In Saturday's match, Marcus Vazquez got the Wolves on the board in the 41st minute on an assist from Jacob Garcia to give WOU a 1-0 lead at the half. Garcia got a goal in the 51st minute on an assist from Yahir Ocampo Navarro to make it 2-0 before SFU (3-9-2, 2-6-0) cut the lead to one in the 58th minute.

The Wolves' one-goal lead quickly expanded to two as Alex Luna scored his third goal in the last two games in the 62nd minute on assists from Javier Blas Casarez and Ocampo Navarro. Alex Grignon close out the scoring with a goal in the 84th minute. For all four goal scorers, it was their third goal of the season.

WOU held SFU to two shots in the first half and would outshoot the Red Leafs 11-10, including 6-3 on shots on goal. Andre Schlaefli finished with two saves.

WOU plays its final home game of the season 11 a.m. Saturday as it hosts Seattle Pacific.
