Wolves drop home matchup with Simon Fraser, 1-0

MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon women's soccer team charged hard late, but couldn't find the equalizer and fell to Simon Fraser 1-0 Saturday at WOU Turf Field.

The Wolves (4-5-8 overall, 4-3-5 GNAC) remain in fourth place with 17 points and in the final spot for a GNAC Championships with two matches to go. While Western Washington, Seattle Pacific and now Simon Fraser have clinched spots into the postseason - WOU still has work to do to clinch a spot as it holds a five-point lead on Montana State Billings, but it could be cut to two points if the Yellowjackets beat Central Washington on Saturday afternoon.

As for Saturday's contest for the Wolves, SFU (11-3-2, 7-3-2) took, an early lead in the 17th minute as the score remained that way heading into the second half. WOU came to life in the second half after not getting a shot off in the opening 45 minutes, taking eight shot - unfortunately for the Wolves, none finding the back of the net.

WOU keeper Sophia Pierce finished with five saves.

The Wolves look to clinch a spot into the GNAC Championships next week as they host Central Washington 1 p.m. Thursday and Northwest Nazarene 6 p.m. Saturday.
