Wolves clinch spot in GNACs with 1-0 win over Central Washington

MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon women's soccer team clinched a spot into the GNAC Championships with a 1-0 win over Central Washington on Thursday afternoon at WOU Turf Field.

The Wolves (5-5-8 overall, 5-3-5 GNAC) will be the No. 4 seed heading into the event and will take on top seed Western Washington next Thursday at Interbay Stadium on the campus of Seattle Pacific in the four-team, single-elimination tournament (the other game will see Seattle Pacific take on Simon Fraser). The winner earns an automatic berth into the 2024 NCAA West Region Championships.

It's the second year in a row the Wolves have made the GNAC Championships and their fifth overall appearance.

As for Thursday's win over Central Washington, it was a scoreless first half and six minutes into the second half before a corner kick from Hadlie Bullock was headed in by Olivia Fothergill to give the Wolves a 1-0 lead they wouldn't relinquish.

WOU dominated play, outshooting the Wildcats (1-10-5, 0-9-4) 20-2 overall and 8-0 on shots on goal.

The Wolves close out the regular season against Northwest Nazarene 6 p.m. Saturday with senior day festivities starting at 5:40 p.m.
