MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon football team fell to 23rd-ranked Angelo State 38-16 on Saturday at McArthur Field in a matchup of the top two teams in the conference as the Rams clinched the Lone Star Conference title.
The Wolves (6-4 overall, 6-2 GNAC) looked like they may gain momentum in the second quarter as a big special teams play by
Cody Hall to block a punt led to
Jeremiah Schwartz falling on it in the end zone to cut the Rams (8-2, 8-0) lead to 17-13 with 5:21 left in the half.
The score remained that way until an 80-yard touchdown pass from ASU's Braeden Fuller to Zorhan Rideaux extended the lead to 24-13 with 11:06 remaining in the third.

Keaton Emmett kicked his second field goal of the day at the 6:10 mark of the third to cut it to 24-16, but that would be the Wolves' last score as the Rams added two more touchdowns to close out the game.
The Wolves committed a season-high four turnovers while being outgained by ASU 428-289.

Jordan McCarty was 7-for-10 passing for 101 yards before leaving the game in the second quarter.
Kainoa Sayre led the Wolves on teh ground with 93 yards on 21 carries while Damon HIckok had four catches for 68 yards.
Daron Ulrich Jr. had a career-high 11 tackles and three pass breakups for the Wolves while
Malcolm Liufau had seven tackles and a forced fumble.
The Wolves, ranked eighth in Super Region 4 heading into the game with the top seven teams making the NCAA Division II playoffs, can still give themselves a chance to get in next week as they travel to take on Central Washington 1 p.m. Saturday - a Wildcat team ranked sixth in the region.
