Wolves drop finale in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO --- The Western Oregon baseball team dropped its final game of its road trip to the Bay Area 12-11 at San Francisco State on Sunday afternoon at Maloney Field.

The Wolves (0-4) led 10-4 heading into the bottom of the eighth before the Gators (4-2) scored five runs in the eighth and three in the ninth to win it.

WOU had 15 hits in the contest with AJ Cortese going 3-for-5 with two RBI, Owen Bischoff going 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run, Curran Mitzel going 2-for-4 with a triple, double, two runs and an RBI, John Oleson went 2-for-5 with three RBI and a run and Zach Valdez went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

Jacob Memmott was solid in his first start of the sason for the Wolves, going five innings and giving up two runs on five hits with six strikeouts and two walks.

WOU has its home opener noon Saturday in a doubleheader against Eastern Oregon.
