HONOLULU --- The Western Oregon softball team bounced back from a walk-off 4-3 loss in game one to win game two 7-5 against Chaminade on Friday at Silversword Field.
In game two, the Wolves (3-5) pounced on the Silverswords (3-5) in the first inning as
Chelby Smalley ripped a two-run single to make it 2-0. After another run scored on an error,
Lexi Carlos hit a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0. WOU made it 6-1 in the fifth on a
Maddie Doig two-run single and WOU's final run came on an
Isabelle Lewis sacrifice fly in the sixth as WOU held on for the 7-5 win.
Alivia Holden was awarded the win as she pitched the final 2.1 innings and gave up two runs on three hits with three strikeouts and three walks. NIcki Derrick got the start, going two innings and didn't give up a hit - allowing just one unearned run while walking four.
At the plate, Smalley finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run.
Sophie Franklin and
Bella Valdes each finished 2-for-4 with a run.
In the first game, the Wolves led 3-2 heading into the seventh inning and were an out away from the win before Chaminade's hit a two-out, two-run, game-winning single to end it.
Kate Ronning led the Wolves, going 2-for-3 with a run and RBI while Carlos went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Mackenzee Collins picked up the loss, going 6.2 innings and giving up four runs on six hits with 11 strikeouts and five walks.
WOU returns to action 2 p.m. (PT) Saturday against Hawaii Hilo in a neutral-site doubleheader.
