Wolves drop both games of doubleheader to CWU on Friday in Ellensburg

ELLENSBURG, Wash. --- The Western Oregon softball team dropped both games of its  doubleheader with Central Washington, 2-1 and 6-2, on Friday at Gary & Bobbi Frederick Field.

In
game one, the Wolves (18-19 overall, 6-8 GNAC) got to an early 1-0 lead in the first after Bella Valdes was walked, then advanced on a bunt by Victoria Zimmerman and came around to score on two different throwing errors. The Wolves maintained their lead until the fourth when the Wildcats (13-22, 8-6) tied it up at 1-1 then took the lead for good in the fifth.

Mackenzee Collins got the loss for WOU, going all six innings and giving up two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out seven. The Wolves finished with a combined five hits from five different players. Valdes finished with two walks and a run scored.

In game two, the Wolves jumped out to  a 2-0 lead in the second when Isabelle Lewis hit a single to right and scored off a Natalie Willoughby double to left before
Maddie Doig doubled to right to score Willoughby. The Wildcats responded in the third, scoring three before scoring two more in the fourth and one in the sixth to make the final 6-2.  

Willoughby finished 1-for-3 with a double, RBI and a run scored while Doig went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Lewis finished 1-for-3 with a run while Valdes finished 1-for-2 with a walk. Erica Soliz gets the loss for the Wolves, giving up six runs, nine hits and five walks with five strikeouts in six innings of work.

The Wolves round out their series with the Wildcats Saturday in Ellensburg with a doubleheader starting at
1 p.m.
