Wolves drop Saturday doubleheader to #17 Northwest Nazarene

NAMPA, Idaho --- The Western Oregon softball team dropped both ends of its doubleheader to 17th-ranked Northwest Nazarene, 8-0 and 6-1, Saturday at Balle Field.

In game one, the Wolves (20-23 overall, 8-12 GNAC) got to a quick start after two hits to start the game, but were shut down with a strong pitching performance from the Nighthawks (37-8, 20-4). NNU went on to score eight runs in five innings, making the final 8-0 in five.

Erica Soliz got the loss for the Wolves, going two innings and giving up six runs (four earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out one. Bella Valdes, Kate Ronning, Lexi Carlos and Victoria Zimmerman had the four hits for WOU.

In game two, the Wolves struck first in the first when Isabelle Lewis hit a two-out triple to right field and scored on a Natalie Willoughby single. WOU held on to its lead till the third when NNU tied it up before adding five more in the fifth to make the final 6-1.

Willoughby finished 2-for-3 with a RBI, while Brooklyn Schneidt finished 2-for-3 with a double. Lewis finished 1-for-3 with a triple and a run scored. Mackenzee Collins got the loss for the Wolves, going 4.1 innings, giving up five runs (four earned) on three hits and two walks along with four strikeouts.

The Wolves take the field again Friday for a doubleheader against nationally-ranked Western Washington in Monmouth starting at 1 p.m.
