MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Saint Martin's, 11-3 and 8-4, on Saturday at WOU Softball Field.
The Wolves (18-15 overall, 6-4 GNAC) in game one started off strong in the bottom of the first when
Kate Ronning singled up the middle, scoring one before
Sydney Conklin singled to left, bringing home Ronning. The Saints (18-15, 9-5 GNAC) took the lead for good when they scored four in the third and two in the fourth. The Wolves would get one more run in the bottom of the fourth after
Karly Tiedeman walked in a run while pinch hitting.
Mackenzee Collins got the loss, going a complete seven innings, giving up 11 runs (nine earned) on 15 hits and seven walks along with eight strikeouts. Ronning finished the game going 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI and
Lexi Carlos finished 2-for-3 with a run.
In game two, the Wolves got off to an early 4-3 lead thanks to an
Isabelle Lewis two-run single to right and a Conklin two-run single to center in the bottom of the first to overcome an early 3-0 deficit. The Wolves held their lead until the fourth when the Saints scored four before adding one more run in the seventh to make the final 8-4
Conklin finished the game going 2-for-3 with two RBI and Lewis finished with a hit and two RBI.
Alivia Holden gets the loss for WOU after pitching 6.1 innings (in relief for starter
Erica Soliz), giving up five runs (four earned) on three hits and five walks while striking out eight.
The Wolves will conclude their series with the Saints on Sunday with a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
