AZUSA, Calif. --- The Western Oregon men's soccer team took advantage of a pair of penalty kicks in the second half and defeated Azusa Pacific 3-2 Thursday at Cougar Soccer Complex.
With the score tied 1-1 in the second half, the Wolves (2-1) found themselves with an opportunity to take the lead in the 60th minute as they were awarded a penalty kick - which was promptly put away by
Yahir Ocampo Navarro to make it 2-1.
However, just 124 seconds later the Cougars (1-2) were awarded a penalty kick and scored in the 62nd minute to tie the game 2-2.
The score remained that way until the 73rd minute when the Wolves were again awarded a penalty kick, and again it was Ocampo Navarro who converted to gie WOU a 3-2 lead it wouldn't relinquish.
In the first half, it was
Jacob Garcia scoring in the 21st minute on an assist from
Marcos Figueroa to make it 1-0 before the Cougars tied it less than two minutes later.
WOU outshot APU 12-7 - including 10-5 on shots on goal.Â
The Wolves play their home opener next at noon Monday against Hawaii Hilo.
