MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon women's soccer team scored early and never looked back as the Wolves opened GNAC play with a 1-0 win over Saint Martin's on Thursday at the WOU Turf Field.
WOU (1-2-3 overall, 1-0 GNAC) jumped out to a 1-0 in the fourth minute when
Kameron Wimsatt hit
Ciara Garcia down the right sideline before Garcia crossed it over the middle where
Olivia Fothergill was there to punch it in for her second goal of the season.
While the Wolves didn't find the back of the net again, they dominated play and outshot the Saints (0-6, 0-1) 20-1 - including 7-1 on shots on goal.
Garcia paced WOU with six shots, Fothergiill finished with five while
Olivia Johnsrud and
Briana Kubli each took three.
Sophia Pierce made one sparkling save to keep the shutout in tact - her second this season.
The Wolves hit the road Saturday to take on Northwest Nazarene.
