Second-half goal by Garcia helps Wolves tie No. 6 UCCS Thursday night in Monmouth

MONMOUTH, Ore. --- Western Oregon's Ciara Garcia in her first game as a Wolf made a quick impact - and did so against her former team.

The UCCS-transfer scored a goal in the 65th minute to help WOU tie 1-1 with No. 6 UC Colorado Springs on Thursday night at WOU Turf Field.

The Wolves (0-0-1) are now unbeaten in their last six games against ranked opponents (3-0-3).

WOU fell behind the Mountain Lions (0-0-1) in the 30th minute on an Emily Aguilar goal.

The score remained that way until the second half when Haley King moved the ball outside to Lilly Nowatzke. The senior dribbled around a defender and sent a beautiful ball with her left foot out front to Garcia. The sophomore tracked it down and beat the keeper 25 yards out into the bottom-left corner to tie the game.

It was an even match shots wise with WOU outshooting UCCS 9-8 - including 6-3 on shots on goal. Garcia, Olivia Fothergill and Kameron Wimsatt each had two shots apiece. Sophia Pierce picked up a pair of saves for the Wolves at keeper.

The Wolves return to action noon Sunday when they host MSU Denver.
