SEATTLE --- The Western Oregon women's basketball team never trailed over the final 31 minutes of the game and held off a fourth quarter run by Seattle Pacific to win 78-67 Saturday at Brougham Pavilion.
The Wolves (7-7 overall, 3-3 GNAC) led the Falcons (6-12, 0-5) by as much as 19 points in the third quarter before SPU made a run to cut it three at 59-56 with 7:02 remaining in the contest.
But WOU held strong as an offensive rebound by
Natalie Brown on a missed free throw led to a 3-pointer by
Mya India Thomas on WOU's next possession to push the lead to six and ignited an 8-0 run that included four points from Brown (including a three-point play) to make it 67-56 as Seattle Pacific wouldn't get within eight points the rest of the way.
WOU went 11-for-23 from 3-point range (a season high in 3-pointers) to counteract going 12-for-40 from inside the arc (the Falcons went 7-for-27 from 3-point range - 25.9 percent). The Wolves also got to the line a season-high 34 times - converting 21 - while SPU went 8-for-9 from the charity stripe.
Bella Pedrojetti led WOU with 22 points - going 5-for-9 from 3 - while
Ciona Wells had 16 points and a team-high five assists and Brown added a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds (eight were offensive).
WOU returns to action next Saturday at Saint Martin's.
