NAMPA, Idaho --- The Western Oregon men's soccer team kept rolling Saturday afternoon as it picked up a key 2-1 win at Northwest Nazarene at NNU Soccer Field to move its unbeaten streak to six and win streak to three.
The victory moves the Wolves into the No. 3 spot in the GNAC standings - just three points behind first-place Seattle Pacific, two points behind Western Washington, a point ahead of Simon Fraser and now three points ahead of NNU with two matches left for WOU (WWU and SFU have two matches remaining while SPU has just one) - meaning four teams heading into the final week have a shot at the GNAC title and five have a shot at making the GNAC Championships (top three teams make it).
The Wolves have Simon Fraser at home on Thursday and host Western Washington on Saturday.
As for Saturday's match, the Wolves jumped out on top in the 17th minute on a
Michael Divano goal assisted by
Yahir Ocampo Navarro - but the lead was short lived as the Nighthawks answered a little more than three minutes later.
But WOU regained the lead before half on an Ocampo Navarro goal to make it 2-1 - the way the game would finish.
Austin Valdez picked up six saves for the Wolves in the win.
