MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon volleyball team battle back in the fourth set to force a fifth, but fell short to Northwest Nazarene 3-2 (25-20, 19-25, 25-22, 27-29, 15-8) on Thursday night at the Wolves Athletic Center.
The Wolves trailed in the fourth game 24-21 but fought off six match points before a pair of
Maela Honma kills with a
Finley Buman ace inbetween gave WOU the 29-27 win to force a fifth-and-deciding game.
However, WOU never led in the final set as the Nighthawks ended the match on a 6-0 run.
Honma finished the match with 30 kills, the second time she's hit the 30-kill mark this season as she became the first WOU player to record two 30-kill matches in a career during the Wolves' NCAA era (since 2000) and the third WOU player overall to do it. The last player to do it was Heather Bailey (during the 1995 and 1996 seasons she hit the 30-kill mark five times - including a WOU record 41).
Chloe Asciutto finished with 13 kills,
Kate Klobas had a team-high four blocks,
Samantha Darby had 48 assists and
Kilinoelehua Helm led WOU with 26 digs and three aces.
The Wolves close out their home schedule 7 p.m. Saturday against Central Washington.
