MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to No. 10 Western Washington on Thursday, 10-4 and 13-1, in non-GNAC contests at WOU softball field.
In the first game, the Wolves (1-10 overall) fell behind 9-0 heading into their half of the third before two-run singles by
Isabelle Lewis and
Kate Ronning cut the deficit to 9-4. However, that's as close as WOU got to the Vikings (9-4).
Madelynne Hommel finished 2-for-3 with a double and a run for WOU.
Alyssa Fullmer picked up the loss, going 1.1 innings and giving up six runs (five earned) on three hits.
Kennedy Abbas was solid in relief, going 5.2 innings and giving up two earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts.
In the second game, the Wolves picked up their lone run on a solo homer by Ronning in the fifth and final inning.
Victoria Zimmerman had WOU's other hit in the contest.
Jessica Morgan picked up the loss, giving up seven runs in 0.1 innings while
Abby Stansbury pitched the final 4.2 innings, giving up six runs (three earned) on nine hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
The teams face off again 10 a.m. Friday before WOU takes on Simon Fraser at 2 p.m. (WWU and SFU play at noon).
