MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon softball team used a four-run first and a strong outing by
Kennedy Abbas to edge Simon Fraser 4-3 in the second of two games Friday after falling to No. 10 Western Washington 11-4 earlier in the day at WOU Softball Field.
In game two, the Wolves (2-11) got rolling in the first inning as
Isabelle Lewis and
Sydney Conklin both had two-run singles to quickly make it 4-0.
The Red Leafs (8-9) scored three in the third to get within one, but Abbas held them scoreless the rest of the way. The sophomore gave up three earned runs on seven hits with seven strikeotus and no walks.
Aaliyah Gaboriault had WOU's other two hits, going 2-for-2 with a run and stolen base.
In the first game, WOU got a two-run homer from
Brooklyn Schneidt and an RBI single from Lauren Maurer to make it 4-3 after two against the Vikings (11-4) - but WWU scored a run in the third, a run in the fourth and five in the fifth to pull away for the win.
Sydney Conklin added a home run for the Wolves as well in the first game.
WOU returns to action Thursday at the Spring Games in Clermont, Florida.
