Wolves bats get hot, win first two games at Florida Spring Games

CLERMONT, Fla. --- The Western Oregon softball team had its two highest run totals of the season Thursday in a 7-5 win over Sioux Falls and a 9-7 victory over Concordia-St. Paul at the Florida Spring Games at Legends Way Complex.

In game one, the Wolves (4-11) jumped out to a 5-0 lead thanks to a four-run fourth that was highlighted by an Isabelle Lewis two-run single. Sioux Falls (1-5) scored four of its own in the fourth to cut the lead to 5-4 before a two-run double by Hope Bodak in the sixth gave the Wolves some breathing room for the win.

Lewis finished 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run, Brooklyn Schneidt went 3-for-4 with an RBI, Victoria Zimmerman went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and a run and Aaliyah Gaboriault walked three times, scored twice and had a stolen base.

Kennedy Abbas got the win, going the distance and giving up five runs on nine hits with two strikeouts and a walk.

In the second game against CSP (1-9), It was the Wolves falling behind 5-0 after the top of the second before scoring five runs in its half of the inning - scoring three runs off of CSP errors. The Wolves took the lead in the fourth when Kate Ronning hit a sacrifice fly to score Madelynne Hommel. Sydney Conklin added a bases-loaded walk in the inning to score a run before Lexi Carlos hit a two-run single to center to give WOU a 9-5 lead.

Carlos finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run, Zimmerman went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, Lauren Mauer went 1-for-2 with a double and a run and Hommel finished 0-for-1 with two runs, an RBI and two stolen bases.

Abby Stansbury got the win in relief, going six innings and giving up four runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and a walk.

WOU returns to action Saturday when it takes on Grand Valley State at 9:30 a.m. (PT) and Tiffin at noon (PT).
