CLERMONT, Fla. --- The Western Oregon softball team opened Saturday with an 8-2 victory over Saint Anselm in game one before falling to Grand Valley State 11-1 later in the day at Legends Way Complex.
In the first game, the Wolves (5-12) jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two - including a four-run second highlighted by an
Isabelle Lewis two-run single. WOU held a 5-2 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth before getting RBI singles from Â
Jenna Bixler,
Aaliyah Gaboriault and
Kate Ronning in the inning to push the lead to 8-2.
Alyssa Fullmer picked up her first win as a Wolf, going six shutout innings and giving up just three hits while striking out three and walking one. Lewis and
Lauren Mauer finished with two hits apiece to lead WOU.
In the second game, WOU gave up four runs in the fifth and another four in the sixth to turn a 3-0 deficit into 11-0 and eventually fell 11-1. Ronning had two of the Wolves' three hits and their lone RBI.
The Wolves close out action in Florida Sunday morning against Southern New Hampshire (6 a.m. PT) and Clarion (8:15 a.m. PT).
