WOU softball edged in final inning in game two, fall twice at CUI

IRVINE, Calif. --- The Western Oregon softball team evened things up with Concordia Irvine in the top of the sixth in game two Wednesday, but fell in walk-off fashion 4-3 after dropping the first game 10-2 at Golden Eagle Stadium.

The Wolves (1-8) in game two jumped out to a 2-0 lead on freshman Jenna Bixler's first collegiate home run before the Golden Eagles (8-1) scored two in the bottom of the first to tie it up. CUI took a 3-2 lead in the third and the score remained that way until the sixth.

WOU got the sixth rolling with a one-out single by Lexi Carlos, and Hope Bodak came in to run for Carlos. Bodak advanced to second on a passed ball and remained there after a Wolves flyout. But freshman Lauren Maurer came through with a two-out single to center to score Bodak and tie the game.

However, CUI opened the seventh with a double and after a pair of walks and a strikeout loaded the bases with one out - the Golden Eagles walked it off with a single up the middle.

Six players accounted for WOU's six hits. Kennedy Abbas picked up the loss in the circle, going 6.1 innings and giving up four runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

In the first game, Carlos and Victoria Zimmerman each went 2-for-3 to lead WOU with Carlos adding an RBI. Aaliyah Gaboriault went 1-for-3 and scored both runs for the Wolves while Brooklyn Schneidt drove in WOU's other run. Jessica Morgan picked up the loss, going three innings and giving up three runs on four hits with two strikeouts and four walks.

WOU plays its home opener Feb. 15 against Eastern Oregon in a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m.
