FRESNO, Calif. --- The Western Oregon baseball team dropped both ends of its doubleheader to Fresno Pacific, 18-6 and 2-1, Friday at FPU Diamond.
In game two (a seven-inning contest), the Wolves (1-5) got a strong start from
Devin Bell - but trailed FPU (4-1) 1-0 heading into the sixth inning. WOU got things going after
Randy Stultz started the inning with a walk. After a fielder's choice by
John Oleson,
Collin Irwin and
Zane Garvey walked with a pop out in between to load the bases with two outs.
Darin Chapman was then hit by a pitch to score Oleson and tie the game.
The score remained that way until the seventh when FPU scored on a two-out error by WOU to win the game.
Shane Bailey picked up the loss for WOU, going 1.2 innings and giving up an unearned run on three hits. Bell went the first five innings, giving up a run on a hit with five strikeouts and two walks.
In the first game, FPU scored 10 runs in the first two innings to catapult to an 18-6 win.
John Oleson finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and two RBI to lead the Wolves.
Owen Bischoff was 2-for-4 with a run,
Andre Jackson II went 2-for-3 while
Gunner Shiotani went 1-for-1 with a double, run and two RBI.
The Wolves and FPU play another doubleheader Saturday atarting at 11 a.m.
