LACEY, Wash. --- The Western Oregon men's basketball team dropped its road contest with Saint Martin's, 81-62, Saturday in the Marcus Pavilion.
The Wolves (4-18 overall, 1-11 GNAC) started the game against the Saints (19-6, 8-4) on a 28-13 run in the first nine minutes - started when
Jahville Collins opened scoring on a layup from
Anjay Cortez. SMU followed with a run of their own, taking the lead 30-28 with 6:03 remaining in the first. The Wolves stayed within 10 of the Saints, trailing 42-33 at halftime. In the second half, WOU brought the SMU lead to within six on a 3-point bucket by
Zach Moore from Collins with 17:54 left, but six was as close as WOU got.
Cortez paced the Wolves in scoring, ending with 14 points, five rebounds and two assists while
Mario Williams Jr. had 13 points, two assists and two steals. Collins finished with 10 points, four assists and two steals, Moore had eight points and two steals and
Tony Salinas ended with nine points and a
WOU-best seven assists - a career high for Salinas.
The Wolves next head back to Monmouth, taking on Western Washington 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
