MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon women's basketball team got 19 points from freshman
Ciona Wells and were within single digits of No. 18 Montana State Billings late into the third, but fell to the Yellowjackets 76-60 Saturday at New PE Building.
The Wolves (8-13 overall, 4-9 GNAC) cut the MSUB (21-4, 10-2) lead down to six at 43-37 following a
Natalie Brown basket and a
MilaSarai Tau free throw. However, a quick 5-0 run by the Yellowjackets pushed the lead back to double figures and WOU wouldn't get closer than nine the rest of the contest.
Wells finished 5-for-9 from 3-point range to help her toward a 19-point effort that included three assists. Brown finished with 12 points and seven rebounds while
Salma Youngblood had nine points and a team-best eight rebounds.
The Wolves return to action 2 p.m. Saturday at home against Saint Martin's.
