MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon baseball team dropped both ends of its doubleheader against Northwest Nazarene Saturday, losing game one, 3-2, in 12 innings before dropping game two, 4-0, at the WOU Baseball Field.
In game one, the Wolves (3-9 overall, 1-3 GNAC) jumped to a 2-0 lead in the second when
Danner Salisbury singled to center, scoring two. The Nighthawks (14-8, 3-1) answered back in the third, scoring two and tying the game, 2-2, where it stayed till the 12th inning. In the 12th, NNU scored one to take the lead and the game, 3-2.
Ayden Holker started on the mound for the Wolves, going four innings and giving up two runs on six hits and striking out one.
Owen Murdock took the loss for the WOU in relief, pitching one full inning and giving up one run on two hits and striking out one. Salisbury went 1-for-3 with two RBIs while
John Oleson went 2-for-5.
Josh Johnson and
Shane Bailey combined to pitch seven shutout innings in relief (Johnson three, Bailey four) and gave up just one hit while striking out five to keep WOU in the game.
In game two, NNU took an early 1-0 lead in the first before adding one more in the fourth and two in the seventh, taking the game 4-0.
Jacob Memmott gave up two runs on five hits in 4.2 innings of work and took the loss. Both
Kaynan Kaku Jr. and
Zane Garvey finished 2-for-3.
The Wolves return to action noon Saturday for a doubleheader at Central Washington.
