WOU softball drops both contests at No. 11 Western Washington on Friday

BELLINGHAM, Wash. --- The Western Oregon softball team dropped both games to 11th-ranked Western Washington, 11-3 and 16-1, Friday at Viking Field.

In the first game, the Wolves (10-17 overall, 4-4 GNAC) started hot with Victoria Zimmerman and Aaliyah Gaboriault singling to start the game before being bunted to second and third by Kate Ronning. Isabelle Lewis followed with an RBI on a fielder's choice before a sacrifice fly by Maddie Doig made it 2-0 WOU.

The Vikings (18-7, 6-2) regained the lead in the bottom of the inning with three runs before WOU tied in the second after a Hope Bodak double and a Gaboriault RBI single made it 3-3. But WWU scored four in the bottom of the second and ended the game via run rule with a four-run fifth inning.

Gaboriault led WOU at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI, run and stolen base.

The Wolves again took the lead first in game two with an RBI double from Lewis to score Zimmerman in the top of the third. However, the Vikings scored eight runs in the bottom of the third and another eight runs in the fourth to finish the game in five at 16-1.

Lewis led WOU at the plate, collecting half of the team's hits by going 2-for-2 with a double and RBI. Lauren Maurer and Emma Cordero had the other hits for WOU.

WOU returns home next week with a Tuesday doubleheader against Warner Pacific before returning to GNAC play at home next Friday and Saturday against Simon Fraser.
