Wolves win via walk-off in game one, drop game two to Warner Pacific on Tuesday

MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon softball team got a walk-off RBI single by Kate Ronning in the first game to defeat Warner Pacific 4-3 before dropping game two 6-4 Tuesday at WOU Softball Field.

The Wolves (11-18) after jumping out to a 2-0 lead on the Knights (5-16) in the first inning on an Isabelle Lewis two-run single to center found themselves behind 3-2 heading to the fifth inning. That's when Ronning ripped a game-tying RBI double down the left field line in the fifth.

The score remained 3-3 before a Victoria Zimmerman double led to a two-out, RBI single by Ronning to win it.

Ronning finished 2-for-3 with two RBI while Madelynne Hommel also had two hits, going 2-for-3. Kennedy Abbas picked up the win, going all seven innings and giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits with seven strikeouts and three walks.

In game two, the team's were tied at 4-4 before WPU scored a pair of runs in the fifth to pull away for the win.

Zimmerman finished 2for-3 with a stolen base and a run, Lauren Mauer went 2-for-4 with an RBI while Lewis added a two-run double and a run. Abby Stansbury got the loss, going seven innings and giving up six runs (five earned) on five hits with three strikeouts and four walks.

The Wolves return to GNAC play noon Saturday against Simon Fraser.
