Wolves baseball drops doubleheader at MSU Billings

BILLINGS, Mont. --- The Western Oregon baseball team lost both ends of a doubleheader Saturday to Montana State Billings, 7-4 and 7-1, at Dehler Park.

The Wolves (5-16 overall, 2-10 GNAC) in the first game fell behind early after the Yellowjackets (18-10, 9-3) scored four in the first and a single run in the next three innings to build a 7-2 lead on their way to a 7-4 victory.

Owen Bischoff paced WOU at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Collin Irwin finished 3-for-5 with a run, John Oleson had a pair of RBI while going 1-for-4 with a double and Darin Chapman finished 2-for-4 with a run scored. Ayden Holker picked up the loss, going 3.2 innings and giving up seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

In the second game, WOU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Bischoff scored on an error. But for the second game in a row, MSUB put up a four spot in the first inning and never looked back.

Bischoff went 1-for-3 with a double and a run while Andre Jackson II was 1-for-3 with a stolen base and Cedric Gatter picked up the Wolves' other hit in the contest. Jacob Memmott picked up the loss, giving up seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits with a strikeout and four walks.

WOU returns home next week, opening up a four-game GNAC series with Saint Martin's starting 1 p.m. Saturday at WOU Baseball Field.
