WOU's Garvey, Memmott sweep GNAC weekly awards

PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Western Oregon baseball team swept the GNAC weekly awards with Zane Garvey named the GNAC Player of the Week while Jacob Memmott was selected the GNAC Pitcher of the Week on Monday.

Garvey, a freshman shortstop from Beaverton, Oregon, went 6-for-13 (.429) with two doubles, four RBI, three runs, two stolen bases and played an errorless shortstop on 18 chances (15 assists) during the Wolves' sweep of Saint Martin's. He drove in or scored a run in three of the four games - including going 3-for-4 with three RBI in the series opening win Saturday and closing out the series with a 2-for-3 performance with two runs Sunday.

Since March 1, he's raised his batting average from .179 to .377 as he's hitting .512 (21-for-41) with 10 RBI, 10 runs, four doubles and a triple in his last 13 games.

Memmott, a senior right-hander from Central Point, Oregon, tossed a four-hit shutout with seven strikeouts and no walks in the Wolves 4-0 series finale win over Saint Martin's to conclude the sweep Sunday. Memmott retired the final 12 batters in order during his 92-pitch performance as only one runner reached scoring position.
