MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon softball team fell to Northwest Nazarene 8-4 and 5-3 on Friday at WOU Softball Field.
In game one, the Wolves (12-29 overall, 5-9 GNAC) took a 4-3 lead on the Nighthawks (20-20, 8-10) in the fourth when freshman
Lauren Mauer blasted a two-run homer to left center. However, NNU tied it in the next half inning and hit a grand slam in the seventh to make the final 8-4.Â
Mauer led the Wolves at the plate, going 2-for-3 with the homer and two RBI.
Kate Ronning finished 1-for-2 with an RBI as well.
In game two, WOU trailed 5-0 going into the bottom of the seventh and rallied for three runs before coming up short. Ronning finished 2-for-4 while
Victoria Zimmerman and
Aaliyah Gaboriault each had an RBI.
WOU and NNU play another doubleheader starting at noon Saturday. Senior Day festivities will take place following game one.
