MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon baseball team got a combined three-hit shutout in a 6-0 win in game two Sunday against Central Washington after dropping the first game 11-2 to split the doubleheader and series with the Wildcats.
In game two, the Wolves (11-22 overall, 8-16 GNAC) blanked CWU (20-17, 13-11) behind a combined shutout from
Kade Coombe and
Bryce Bond. Coombe picked up the win, going four innings and giving up just two hits (both to lead off the fifth inning) with two strikeouts and a walk while Bond picked up the save - going the final three innings and giving up just one hit with five strikeouts and a walk.
WOU got all the offense it would need in the second inning when
Tyler Mohler hit an RBI single through the right side to score
Collin Irwin. WOU picked up two more run in the third on RBI singles from
John Oleson and Irwin, and three more in the sixth on a wild pitch and RBI singles from
Zane Garvey and
Owen Bischoff.
Oleson finished 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI while Irwin was 2-for-3 with a run and RBI.
In the first game, WOU led 1-0 heading to the fourth before CWU tied it and eventually took the lead for good thanks to a four-run fifth inning.
Andre Jackson II finished 2-for-4 with a double, Bischoff went 2-for-3 with a double and
Trey Nelson belted a solo home run.
The Wolves are back at home 3 p.m. Wednesday when they host George Fox in a single, nine-inning contest.
