WOU's Bell named NCBWA West Region Pitcher of the Week for second time

MONMOUTH, Ore. --- For the second time this season, Western Oregon pitcher Devin Bell was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association West Region Pitcher of the Week after a stellar performance against Central Washington on Saturday.

The junior right-hander threw eight shutout innings in the series opener, allowing two walks and three hits while striking out eight. After working out of a jam in the first inning, Bell retired 10 in a row into the fifth inning, allowed just one hit over his final seven innings of work and held CWU to two runners reaching scoring position in the contest.

Bell earned his first NCBWA West Region Pitcher of the Week honor on March 3 following his three-hit, 13-strikeout shutout of Northwest Nazarene on Feb. 28 in Monmouth.

The La Grande, Oregon, native lowered his ERA to 2.32 on the season (third in the GNAC, 37th in D-II) as opponents are hitting just .179 against him. He's second in the GNAC at 8.61 strikeouts per nine innings while ranking in the top 15 in D-II in hits allowed per nine innings (5.47 - ninth) and WHIP (0.96 - 15th).

The Wolves host George Fox 3 p.m. Wednesday.
