BILLINGS, Mont. --- The 16th-ranked Western Oregon women's soccer team used a pair of second-half goals to beat Montana State Billings 2-0 on Thursday afternoon at Yellowjacket Field in the teams' GNAC opener.
WOU (4-1-1, 1-0) and the Yellowjackets (1-4, 0-1) played a scoreless first half before the Wolves got a little help two minutes into the second half when MSUB tried to clear a ball deep in its back half, but instead it turned into an own goal to give WOU a 1-0 lead.
The Wolves gave themselves some insurance in the 78th minute when
Ally Beavers broke free down the middle of the field and found
Kyra DiBenedetto who quickly hit a streaking CiCi Garcia who one touched it past the keeper to make it 2-0.
WOU outshot MSUB 20-11 in the contest - including 6-4 on shots on goal.
Bella Lopez made all four saves to pick up the clean sheet - her third of the season.
The Wolves host a key, nationally ranked matchup 6 p.m. Saturday as they host No. 18 Seattle Pacific.
