No. 22 Wolves bounce back with 3-1 win over Hawaii Hilo on Monday

MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The No. 22 Western Oregon men's soccer team got all three goals from two original members of the 2022 inaugural NCAA men's team as the Wolves defeated Hawaii Hilo 3-1 Monday at WOU Soccer Field.

The Wolves (1-1) bounced back from a season-opening loss Saturday to UC Merced thanks to getting on the board early when Marcos Figueroa found Abrham Villalobos in the 18th minute who promptly put the ball away.

WOU extended the lead over the Vulcans (1-2) in the 29th minute when a ball sent by Figueroa from mid field down near the end line was one-touched back by Michael Divano right to Alex Grignon who put it away to make it 2-0.

UHH didn't go away, however, as the Vulcans score five minutes into the second half to cut the WOU lead to one. However, the Wolves took advantage of a mistake by the Vulcans in the back five minutes later as a soft pass was stolen by Marcus Vazquez who found a sprinting Grignon for the goal to make the final 3-1.

WOU outshot the Vulcans 15-14, but UHH had more shots on goal (7-6).

WOU keeper Justin Stewart was key in goal, picking up six saves to preserve the victory.

The Wolves hit the road this week to play a pair of neutral site games in Nampa, Idaho - taking on Colorado Mesa on Thursday before facing Westminster on Saturday.
