MONMOUTH, Ore. — Jadin Penigar scored a game-high 23 points and the Western Oregon men's basketball team pulled away early and never looked back in a 76-59 win over Simon Fraser on Thursday night at the Wolves Athletic Center.
The Wolves (6-9, 1-5 GNAC) set the tone from the opening minutes, shooting 47 percent from 3-point range in the first half and building a 38-24 advantage at the break. Western Oregon knocked down eight 3-pointers before halftime and stretched the margin to as many as 14 points in the first half.
Western Oregon continued to control the game in the second half, opening the second half with steady offensive execution and defensive pressure to keep Simon Fraser (5-12, 2-5 GNAC) at bay. The Wolves shot 48 percent from the field in the second half and turned 14 turnovers into 20 points.
Penigar finished 10-for-20 from the field and added seven rebounds and five assists to pace WOU. Carson Frincke provided a sharp shooting night of his own, hitting six 3-pointers and finishing with 18 points. Peter-Kaci Gwananji added 10 points and five rebounds, while Braydon Olson chipped in 11 points off the bench.
Western Oregon returns to action at home on Saturday, hosting Western Washington at 4:15 p.m.
